☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 3.

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 219

And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: “That which is beyond your needs.” Thus Allah makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought.”

When we think about worldly poverty, our hearts melt with pity at the increasing figures. The amount of muslims around the globe in need of financial assistance are indeed too many. But likewise, we do have rich muslims everywhere around the world, alhamdulillah.

Allah (swt) described what we should spend as charity: “that which is beyond your needs”. Subhanallah, imagine the amount of poverty that would be curtailed if we all abided by that! How the muslim ummah would flourish! Shouldn’t we ask ourselves before getting anything: “do I really need this”? Do I really need that extra abayah? That super expensive jewelry? That lavish wedding? Spend for the sake of Allah with certainty that Allah would never waste the reward of the Good doers?

Let’s spend for the sake of Allah (swt) and abandon all extravangancy, for indeed the extravagant is the brother of shaitan (17:27). The muslim ummah is at a state of catastrophe wallahi. Here in Northern Nigerian, we know of many families who share one room because of been displaced from their homes, and others can’t even find one room wallahi. Let’s respond to appeals from organizations commited to helping such people please.

“And gives his wealth, in spite of love for it” (2:177)

“Who is it that would lend to Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times?” (2:245).

May He gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make of those who live with the whole Qur’an, in heart and in mind, ameen.

☆Qur’anic Gems☆ Day 2

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 208:

O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islamic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). Verily! He is to you a plain enemy.

As muslims, we are those who submit entirely to Allah’s will. Whatever we are told, we respond with “we hear & we obey” [24:51]. We take precedence over pleasing Allah than ourselves & likewise, we are severe in our love for Allah.
“But those who believe, are more severe in their love for Allah (love Him more than anything else) [2:165]

Then who are those who are choosy in following the commandments of Allah? If such & such is haram, they continue to do it, following the footsteps of shaitan (2:208) & taking precedence over personal pleasure than Allahs. And if such & such is mandated, they turn their faces away in pride, shaitan inciting deceptive thoughts in them: ‘He is the Most Merciful, isn’t He?
Indeed He (swt) said:

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah & His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.” (33:36).

No doubt, we need to take charge of our lives and submit ‘whole-heartedly’ to Allah. May He gift us with more from His ‘Gems’ and make of those who live with the whole Qur’an, in heart and in mind, ameen.
